Game two of the 2019 FIBA World Cup for OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder and his German team resulted in yet another heartbreaking loss.

Back in action for game two of the 2019 FIBA World Cup, OKC Thunder point guard Dennis Schroder and his German team battled once again right to the final seconds but the result was the same – another loss.

This time the German’s faced the Dominican Republic team who bested them by two points winning 70-68. Losing their second match in a row by so few points only served to deepen the pain as this result no doubt ruined all expectations for the Germans to win their Group and advance for an opportunity to win the World Cup 2019 title.

More from Thunderous Intentions

In his second game of the FIBA 2019 tournament, Schroder showcased his prowess with his national team leading all scoring with 20 points the most on both teams. Maodo Lo (10 points) and Daniel Theis (12 points) were the only other German players to break into double-digit scoring.

The OKC Thunder point guard was clearly the best player on the hardwood this day but his efforts fell just short with the two-point loss.

Schroder added three rebounds and seven assists, but once again struggled to hang on to the ball coughing it up via four turnovers.

This match was almost the polar opposite of the start the German’s got in their first contest as they took it to the Dominican squad in the first quarter and garnered a 21 to 16 lead. The second quarter saw their lead diminish as the DR squad bested them 21 to 18 but the Germans still held a slim two-point lead at the half.

Following the break, the Germans lost the third quarter and likely the game as they scored just 13 points to the Dominican Republic squads 18 points. The final frame was another strong effort the German’s won 16 to 15 yet it was still two points shy of the tie to force overtime.

Game three for the Germans will find them playing the final Group G opponent to close out the opening phase of the FIBA tournament. The squad they’ll face is likely the easiest of the Group G trio with Team Jordan on tap for September 5th.
