Day four of the OKC Thunder training camp is in the books with the focus on player bonding and the competitive hunger motivating the team.

Two definitive takeaways stood out following day four of the OKC Thunder training camp. Although many of the players on the roster have spent time working out or interacting with each other during the offseason the budding chemistry building during camp is undeniable.

The more compelling news is how the players are feeling coming into the season. After years of the Thunder being considered a top tier team the predominant thinking is they are lottery bound this season. That narrative appears to have fueled a fire particularly among the youngsters who are intent to prove their critics wrong.

CP3 responds to SGA bold claims:

After day three of practice, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spoke about his relationship with Chris Paul and the knowledge he is imparting. The youngster also quipped he was beating the vet in every shooting drill and slyly smiled telling those assembled to make sure they told Paul what he said.

The point guards already respected each other but their developing friendship has also been on display. Considering this duo could easily view each other as deterrents to personal success it’s refreshing to witness Paul embracing the mentor role and SGA eagerly soaking up his knowledge like a sponge.

Yet, it’s the playful interaction between them that highlights the genuine nature of their bond. On day four fans heard back from CP3 on those shooting drill competitions.

CP3 even posted on Twitterthe lies they tell” with a facepalm and crying emoji. Clearly, the two are enjoying this banter and having fun with each other.

Andre Roberson shooting form:

Another ongoing topic of interest throughout the first few days of camp has centered on the status of Andre Roberson and his availability.

With Donovan confirming his anticipated involvement at the Blue and White scrimmage on Sunday, it certifies ARob’s media day assertion he’s 100 percent ready.

Now that fans are sated regarding his progress the next topic is how Dre is looking physically. One area  Donovan touched on was Roberson’s shot or more specifically the minor form change to his shot. Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman offers up the above video of Billy D discussing his form.

In the video provided by Erik Horne of The Oklahoman below, we’re given a sneak peek of his retooled mechanics.

One thing we caught is how ARob barely ever bends his knees while shooting what has become his nemesis — free throws.

Billy Donovan Team Carnivore:

Chris Paul‘s influence on his new team is evident. He’s convinced a few of his teammates like Andre Roberson to switch to a plant-based diet. Steven Adams a spokesperson for Oklahoma Beef won’t be joining in and it appears Billy Donovan is team carnivore too as per NBA insider Brady Trantham.

Speaking of hunger:

Hamidou Diallo‘s comment may sound like he’s channeling Serge Ibaka and his “How Hungry Are You?” show but he’s actually talking about the team’s desires.

It was a given the team wouldn’t be expected to compete but this is a new position for OKC Thunder players to be in.

Virtually every season outside of their inaugural campaign in OKC the team was projected to reach the playoffs and often to be in the mix as an elite Western Conference leader.

This desire to win is a common refrain among the youngsters which might seem odd given they haven’t been with the club or experienced the years of success. Diallo notes the competition amongst the squad for playing time.

However, this also speaks to the culture and identity that was established over the past 11 seasons. Kudos to Sam Presti for laying the foundation of that mindset and for leaders like Russell Westbrook who made sure everyone bought in.

It’s likely Steven Adams and Andre Roberson are leading the charge this year alongside Chris Paul. Although CP3 is new to the club, his will to compete is renown in the NBA.

The team will have the day off today and reconvene Sunday for the Blue and White scrimmage.
