3 Takeaways from the OKC Thunder Blue and White scrimmage
By Rylan Stiles
The new offense
This team was not lying at OKC Thunder media day when they raved about the new offense. In fact, all we heard on Media Day were the players talking about ball movement and less iso basketball. And, while at times the players and sets looked sloppy (as expected this early in training camp) the new offense held true.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
On every play down the floor there was some sort of action ran, passes being thrown, and those without the basketball moving around trying to get open.
It was super refreshing for those of us who have watched this team for over a decade. Today fans got to witness ball movement and even the point guard move without the basketball in his hands instead of waiting at the 3 point line waiting for his turn with the ball again.
It might take a while for Thunder Nation to get used to what has seemingly been a foreign concept these past several seasons but it sure makes for a much more enjoyable product on the hardwood.
We knew Chris Paul would fit into whatever system he was asked, however witnessing how perfectly suited to this style Gilgeous-Alexander bodes well for the offense this year.
