Week 1 NBA Power Ranking the roller coaster ride begins
Chicago Bulls
Offense: (100.9 ) – 23rd
Defense: (106.0) – 16th
Net: (minus -5.0 ) – 24th
Games Week 1: (1-2)
Games Week 2 (4 games): Oct. 29 at Knicks | Oct. 30 at Cavs | Nov. 1 vs. Pistons | Nov 3 at Pacers
The Bulls didn’t show out in week one, however, there are signs this team could progress during the season. They’ve got length, depth, and talent but for the most part, the roster is very young.
Zach LaVine is keenly firing up shots with wild abandon. In the three games of week one, he got up 17, 23 and 13 shots with the last coming against the Raptors who defended him well forcing him to pass. If head coach Jim Boylen can convince LaVine to share the ball more this team could make offensive strides but until that point teams will simply key on LaVine and the better defensive squads will capitalize with easy victories.
Boylen is anxious for the Bulls to adopt a defense first attitude. Week one they took strides in that direction finishing in the middle of the pack. The roster is comprised of the right personnel to play on both sides – it’s a matter of convincing the players to work more as a team.
Rookie Coby White is exciting posting strong showings in his first week of action:
- Charlotte Hornets: 17 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists
- Memphis Grizzlies: 25 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 of 8 from deep
- Toronto Raptors: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals
It remains a huge question mark why other teams passed on drafting White and before this season is finished I think he’ll prove that was a big mistake.
