Thanks to the sizzling start to the season, OKC Thunder two way player Luguentz Dort has turned heads in the G-League.

The OKC Thunder two-way player Luguentz Dort, certainly is making G-League and varsity squads alike sit up and take notice. The 20-year-old guard out of Arizona 35 point explosion to start the season was enough to get the OKC Blue over the line against the South Bay Lakers.

His 21 points against the Agua Caliente Clippers was not enough for the win but it has him averaging 28 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. This was enough for Dort to be recognized as one of the top three two-way players in the G-League.

Dort, while polishing up his skills playing for the Blue, has plenty of work to do before he will be called up to the varsity squad. In the first game of the season he had five assists, the Blue won. In the second game he had zero assists, the Blue lost.

More from Thunderous Intentions

There are plenty of other factors at play, like teammates missing shots, but Dort needs to show that he is more than just a scorer to get to the next level.

The problem for Dort is the level of competition that he is facing at guard. He has Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dennis Schroder, Hamidou Diallo, Deonte Burton and Devon Hall who are all ahead of him at the moment.

One thing in his favor is that Dort is shooting the ball at 56 percent from the floor and 44 percent from deep. However, expect those numbers to drop when he gets the call-up.

Or should I say when he gets the call? It’s a given that will happen since the OKC Thunder are in a restock mode and will want to assess Dort against NBA competition.

One thing is for sure, if Dort keeps these numbers up, he will continue to turn heads in the G-League as well as in the OKC Thunder coaching offices.

Until he gets the call-up, Dort will keep the OKC Blue competitive.
