The undiminished play of OKC Thunder guard Chris Paul
Leadership:
Chris Paul is certainly one of the better leaders in the NBA. For evidence of this, look back at almost any game this season. The one that sticks out the best in my mind is the second game against the Golden State Warriors.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
The Thunder had led for most of the game. The Warriors came roaring back and tied the game with a short time remaining. Paul settled the team who then went on to win the game. Likewise, when the Philadelphia 76ers went on a late run, Paul rallied the Thunder troops to tie the game and then win in overtime.
Paul is also taking on a mentor role with the team. Although he has done that with all his teams it is crucial for this young Thunder squad. He has second year sensation Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who is a sponge soaking up his every word. He is also mentoring Dennis Schroder almost every possession that they are on the court together
Chris Paul may have lost a step in pace but he has more than made up for it via his experience. Plus his slight regression is expected given he is advancing out of his prime.
All things considered, Chris Paul may be on the downside of a brilliant career but his contributions to the OKC Thunder both in terms of production and mentoring prove his game remains undiminished.
