With the Wizards two wins, in week five the club finds themselves on the periphery of the playoff seeds. As per previous power ranking weeks, I’ll caution of fools gold.
For as much as the Wizards can be an offensive powerhouse, they are equally as deficient on defense. Their 29th defensive ranking doesn’t even do justice to how much this team ignores that side of the hardcourt.
For example, Washington allows opponents to score 121.1 points (ranks 30th). They allow teams to shoot 48.0 percent from the field (shockingly one other team performs worse).
Washington allows opponents to move and pass the ball evidenced by the allowance of 26.3 assists per game (ranks 27th).
As has been cited in these rankings repeatedly, the Wizards can score with the best teams – especially when no one defends them and they successfully lure opponents into the back and forth schoolyard game. But as teams approach the quarter pole they are figuring out what the Wizards are doing and there’s also the little matter of them having played the fewest games. Let’s see how they rank after a week of four games on the road.
