OKC Thunder affiliate OKC Blue season is being wrecked by injury
OKC Thunder affiliate the OKC Blue is having a season that is being wrecked by injury and varsity call ups aren’t helping the cause.
The OKC Blue started the season strongly. They had their full team with the exception of Markel Brown. They even had OKC Thunder center Justin Patton assigned to them.
Things started well defeating the South Bay Lakers before losing a close one to the Agua Caliente Clippers. Consecutive wins against the Westchester Knicks and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers had the Blue sitting second in the West with a 3-1 record.
Then the losing started, coinciding with the schedule getting tougher, the Blue started losing key players to injury.
Kevin Hervey had played really well at the start of the season but landed awkwardly in the game against the Knicks and has not played since. He was a key piece for the Blue until he went down.
To make matters worse, the Blue has been without small forward Myke Henry for the last two games. It is interesting to note that Henry has missed three games and the Blue have lost all three. Notably, with Henry in the lineup it also was when the Blue perform at the top of their game. Suffice to say, Henry is the heart and soul of the team.
The Blue need to catch a break. When they are healthy they are one of the top teams in the G-League, even without Brown. When they have their full team healthy the Blue is going to be hard to beat, particularly at home.
They have help from the OKC Thunder when the varsity squad has the ability to assign players. Justin Patton has been with the team the whole season. Deonte Burton and two-way player Devon Hall have also spent time with the squad.
While the Blue have had a five and six-day break between games, they have lost to teams they should have beaten. Hopefully, there is some relief in sight and the Blue can get back to the top of the Western Conference standings where they belong.
