Without the Pistons on their schedule, the Hornets regressed to the lottery team they truly are. That said, there are some fun guys to watch if you’re inclined to catch other teams.
One interesting note is how well PJ Washington is playing. Through the quarter pole, the rookie spotlight focused on Ja Morant, the Heat rookie surprises (Herro and Nunn) and RJ Barrett. Washington doesn’t get much mention.
Even the coverage of his own teammates has focused more on Devonte’ Graham‘s ascendance but it’s hard to argue the qualities in PJ’s game. What makes him so interesting is he does a lot of things well and never tries to stand out.
That might sound like an odd thing to say but it speaks to Washington understanding his role (already as a rookie). He might not ever be an All-Star or make any teams but there are hints of the two-way Swiss army knife Paul Millsap in his game which is the type of player every team desires.
Graham and Monk will keep doing exciting things this season, but if you catch a Hornets game focus on Washington and how smoothly he meshes with his court mates and does all the things that matter.
