With a full library of experience on hand should the OKC Thunder consider signing the recently waived Jeff Green to add depth and mentorship?

The OKC Thunder have surprised this season. Players who would not have considered the organization at the start of the year might look to try and earn a contract for next season based on the way they finish this one.

Jeff Green was cut by the Utah Jazz after they traded Dante Exum for Jordan Clarkson. There is potential for him to go to the Los Angeles Lakers or the Philadelphia 76ers but let’s kick the tires on an old OKC Thunder alumni.

Green started his career with the then Seattle Supersonics before the franchise was moved to Oklahoma City. Green was traded to the Boston Celtics in the middle of the 2010-11 season.

Green has bounced around the NBA playing for eight franchises in his 13-year career. He is now used to many different offenses and defenses in his career.

Green missed the entirety of the 2011-12 season with a heart condition. Other than that season, Green has been a solid player for each and every franchise he has played for.

Over his 890 career games, Green has averaged 13.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists in 29.6 minutes per game. He has shot the ball at 44.0 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from three and 80.5 percent from the line.

This season Green has played 30 games for the Jazz averaging 7.8 points, and 2.7 rebounds. His shooting splits have dipped going 38.5 percent from the floor, 32.7 percent from deep and 77.8 percent from the line.

Green is not going to automatically make the OKC Thunder into a contender and he may not even get much playing time. This because the Thunder are looking to the future and trying to develop rookie Darius Bazley.

What Green could offer the Thunder is greater depth when Bazley or Danilo Gallinari is unavailable for any reason.

Moreover, having someone with his breadth of knowledge would offer another mentor for the team especially if Gallinari is traded.
