OKC Thunder: Dennis Schroder roller coaster week of highs and lows
It’s been an up and down week for OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder as he experienced the highest of highs and lowest of lows.
Last week OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder was pegged as the Player of the Week for the Western Conference. It was the first time in his career he was honored with an individual award.
The award covered the week of December 16th to 22nd which included games versus the Chicago Bulls, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns and LA Clippers. In those four matches, the German averaged 25.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and six assists. All four matches ended in victory and the trio point guard lineup was central to the wins.
Schroder along with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chris Paul are giving major credence to this trio point guard lineup many analysts questioned (myself included) at season start. It was arguably the high point of his career as far as positive weeks go.
Cut to last week and the adage of what goes up must come down.

Since then Schroder got hurt twisting his ankle against the Charlotte Hornets which kept him out of the game Sunday against the Raptors. It was the first game the point guard didn’t play this season. In fact, Schroder has offered up iron man type appearances since joining the Thunder missing only three games last season.
As of this posting he might also be sidelined against the Mavericks in the New Year’s Eve match slated for tip off tonight at 8:00 p.m EST (7:00 p.m. CST).
Adding to the negative week Schroder also got hit hard in the wallet for his on court interaction with a referee. During the Hornets game Schroder took exception for a missed call and while trying to reason with the referee CJ Washington touched him to get his attention. He was trying to demonstrate to the official how Cody Zeller fouled him.
Washington and the league don’t care about the semantics of the “why” Schroder touched him, only that he did which against the rules. And, for the infraction, it will cost Schroder $25,000.
After the New Year’s Eve game against Dallas, the Thunder will begin 2020 on the road with games versus the Spurs, Cavaliers, 76ers, and Nets.
Make sure to check back after the game tonight for the postgame grades. And, from all of us at Thunderous Intentions, have a happy and safe New Year’s Eve.
