A rough week for the Hornets who made some post deadline moves by releasing both Marvin Williams and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Those players are expected to sign with the Bucks and Mavericks.
The irony is while neither Williams or MKG were helping the Hornets win they are precisely the type of support talent who can help a contender. The problem was the Hornets spent far too much money on these types of players in the past seasons. Now they are letting them walk for nothing to clear cap space.
Presumably, Mitch Kupchak won’t make the same mistakes (although his deal to Terry Rozier still feels like an overpay). This squad is lottery bound but they’ve discovered some nice young pieces and the key for the future will be adding players who compliment each other and not overpaying for the supplemental players.
