OKC Thunder get 20th road win in a classic match vs. Celtics – grades
Best OKC Reserve:
If for no other reason than that steal and layin Dennis Schroder earns the big grade. Like Dort, it seemed like Dennis Schroder was another teammate whose rhythm was thrown off by the absence of Shai (at least early).
He played scrappy today though and while there was the one bad play where he passed the ball back to Paul instead of shooting overall he made a big impact (especially that game-winner!).
Without SGA it was essential he provide extra offense and he did that and some. Schroder finished with 27 points, two rebounds, six assists, and two steals — with one VERY BIG one to end the game.
Best Opponent:
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
This nod could’ve gone to Gordon Hayward but he faded in the second half with Tatum doing more overall. Albeit, he failed to finish the game with Chris Paul guarding him but that might have more to do with CP3’s ability than Tatum’s.
The youngster is growing into a superstar and in the open court there isn’t anyone who can stop him. His defense is improved although he gets away with some calls that seem to indicate he’s already earned the “superstar” reputation.
Overall his day consisted of 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, a block and he hit three of seven from deep.
He’s still only 22 years old (just turned five days ago) so they’ll be plenty more to come in the future from Tatum.
Again, this was one of the best wins of the season and as I finish this the Rockets are about to lose to the Magic which means the OKC Thunder will be in fifth by night’s end!
The Thunder gets some much-deserved rest as they don’t play again until Wednesday in yet another pivotal game in terms of standings as the Jazz comes to OKC. To view the full box score click this link courtesy of ESPN.
