OKC Thunder: Creativity and adaptability at crux of Adam Silver’s update
Is the NBA destined for a future shifted calendar?
The Commissioner spoke of how the NBA has always been on the cutting edge in terms of being willing to try new and different ways or to make creative changes as they did with the All-Star game in recent years.
Asked if the league is open to shifting the schedule calendar for future seasons Silver said the league remains open to this concept. Furthermore, he noted the conventional calendar has undergone major changes based on the way fans watch the game. Television “prime time” is viewed differently as well and he added many of the league owners have media backgrounds which is paying dividends in this ongoing process.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
The narrator’s takeaway on his response, however, was Silver was far less excited than he is when discussing changes to things like mid-season tournaments, playoff formatting changes or the charity tournament he mentioned as one of his trio of considerations for the league’s return.
Silver’s parting thoughts focused on the creativity arena as he and the league remains adaptable and open to creative resolutions. As always Silver’s focus will be to continue growing the appeal and fan base of the league.
That factor can’t be ignored as the NBA remains in the trendsetter position. To wit, each of the other major sports leagues suspended play after the NBA made the initial move and the Association is also seemingly the only league discussing numerous alternatives for how they address what format this season will play out if a return can be fostered.
As the Commissioner spoke of these potential options and the openness the league functions with it’s worth noting how the other major sports leagues are all seemingly sitting on the sidelines watching and taking notes. Silver and the league partners continue to pave the way to adaptation with a view to providing fans with the best possible product.
That said, in this foreign situation the NBA is on equal footing with the general public as we all learn to bravely navigate this pandemic and hope for an expeditious resolution.
