OKC Thunder: The strange NBA Draft stock of Cole Anthony
By Rylan Stiles
The puzzling case of Cole Anthony and his ever-changing 2020 NBA Draft stock. Could he fall to the OKC Thunder?
The OKC Thunder are going to be big players in this year’s NBA Draft, with two possible picks coming up and a ton of draft assets to move up in this year’s class if they see fit. With a ton of uncertainties around the NBA Draft pre-workout process, and when the event will even take place, one of the biggest puzzle pieces is Cole Anthony.
The NBA World has come to a screeching halt, as has the rest of society as we are in the midst of a global pandemic the likes of which most of us have never seen before. As life drastically alters, and most of us adapt to working from home, and other social adaptations, what better time than now to start breaking down the NBA Draft. A sense of normalcy restored, as much as possible, as we start talking strickly about basketball.
In a world of uncertainty, one of my biggest questions in life involved Cole Anthony (which is a side peak behind the curtain of my life). The North Carolina guard entered the 2019-20 College Basketball season as one of the game’s top players.
Viewed as a lock for a top-three pick in the NBA Draft within most draft circles, Anthony was my number two prospect entering the season. I actually went as far as to call Cole Anthony my “Preseason Tyler Herro of the Draft”.
Remember the OKC Thunder fanbase going into a frenzy over Tyler Herro? I thought Cole Anthony would have that same impact. Safe to say, he did not win my Tyler Herro of the year award, and that will be released as a later date.
So what happened? How could everyone, literally everyone, have overrated Cole Anthony to this extent?
