12th) Spurs – Cumulative opponent win total: 292

Seeding Game Record: 5-3, eliminated from playoffs – the first time in 22 seasons the Spurs will miss the playoffs

  1. Spurs 129 – Kings 120  (July 31)
  2. Spurs 108 – Grizzlies 106 (August 2)
  3. 76ers 132 – Spurs 130  (August 3)
  4. Nuggets 132 – Spurs 126 (August 5)
  5. Spurs 119 – Jazz 111 (August 7)
  6. Spurs 122 – Pelicans 113 (August 9)
  7. Spurs 123 – Rockets 15 (August 11)
  8. Jazz 118 – Spurs 112 (August 13)

The typical stance of the narrator has come into question. The Spurs have been a squad I simply refuse to ignore because like death and taxes they are a sure thing — or at least they were for over two decades.

This season hasn’t lived up to that reputation though and suddenly it looks like San Antonio will miss the postseason. That is unless the switch to going with the youth brigade and playing small ball ends up resulting in an abrupt turnaround for Pops and his youngsters.

Helping their cause is the Spurs play three teams from the play-in group (including the Grizzlies) and wins against all three teams would behoove them reaching that goal.

Likewise, late matches against the Rockets and Jazz in Games 7 and 8 could either be a positive if both have secured seeding  – – or it could a dog fight if those teams are still jockeying for position.
