The OKC Thunder finally played the third match versus the Jazz easily collecting the win. Grades offer the details.

This game had extra motivation for both sides. Most importantly was who would own the tiebreak for the season. By virtue of the OKC Thunder win, they now sit just a half-game back of the Utah Jazz, and with the Denver Nuggets losing OKC are now 1.5 games back of the Nuggets who they’ll play on Monday.

From the tip, Chris Paul took control and proved why he’s garnering ample praise and consideration for All-NBA teams. OKC won the first quarter 29-15 and the second 37-27.  It was one of the best defensive halves we’ve witnessed this season. OKC took a 24 point half time lead it seemed like the club had difficulty getting too amped in the second half but did enough to maintain the big lead and close out the game.

We’ve been stating all season the team the Thunder should want in the first round is the Jazz and this easy victory showcased why.

As it is the Jazz are lucky to still be a half-game up on the Thunder since that was only a result of the Pelicans beating themselves in the closing minutes of their match versus Utah.

Although Rudy Gobert will garner ample consideration as Defensive Player of the Year (hint: he’s not going to win), this match showcased how teams are no longer afraid to drive into the paint and score against him.

On to player grades.
