OKC Thunder: Humble Schroder sends accolades to 6th Man Harrell
OKC Thunder guard Dennis Schroder demonstrated class and humility in sending Montrezl Harrell a heartfelt congratulations for his Sixth Man win.
While the OKC Thunder has been off the court for seems like an eternity the players and team is still top of mind. Awards are still being announced with the NBA expected to release the All-Rookie teams today (Tuesday, September 15th).
The recent award announcement of the Sixth Man of the Year was awarded to LA Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell. Trez beat our Thunder Nation’s own Dennis Schroder who came in second and his own teammate Lou Williams.
Despite the tightly contested battle between the trio, there were many in Thunder Nation (and the NBA) who were shocked Schroder didn’t take the honors.
While some of us were feeling a bit shady about the news the German guard was humble in the loss. Dennis sent a message of congratulations to Harrell was met in Thunder Nation with a bit of shock.
In truth, it was a tight race between the three candidates
and there were many other quality candidates as Thunderous Intentions outlined before the finalists were announced. When the association announced the three finalists one funny take by Schroder is he asked the very simple question of how two different players could be Sixth Man on the same team.
Dennis Schroder congratulations Harrell on win
It’s a reasonable response since one would have to be the sixth man and one the seventh right? Okay, stop laughing. That message was posted on Schroder’s Instagram account noted on Fadeaway World by By Ernesto Cova
Now that the results are in Schroder showed sportsmanship and humility reaching out to Harrell to congratulate him responding directly on Harrell’s Instagram account. His comment falls directly under Harrell’s message in the comment section.
“Congrats to my guy @trezz24” “Your family is proud of you especially your GrandMa !!! Stay strong she watching over you at all times”
The latter part of the message from Schroder is in reference to Harrell’s Grandmother who passed away recently and was the reason Trez left the Orlando bubble.

The Clippers big man responded back to Schroder and was appreciative of his nod. Harrell and his Clippers are locked in a conference semi-finals battle with the Denver Nuggets. That series will be decided this evening in the Game 7 contest.
Both Harrell and Williams have struggled to have the same impact on the series and a big night from either could help give the Clippers the edge.
It could be a pivotal summer for both players. Harrell will enter free agency and be a coveted prospect to add to many rosters. Schroder is still under contract but the OKC Thunder will need to make a decision on whether now is the time to trade him as his value may never be higher.
