OKC Thunder captain Chris Paul was front and center during HBCU week to discuss his passion and the OKC Thunder.

Although Chris Paul and his OKC Thunder are no longer playing in Orlando the captain is still extremely busy. This past week he made appearances on various TV programs and podcasts to discuss one of his greatest passions HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) during HBCU week.

While Paul was in the bubble he also carried the torch to promote HBCUs. His fashion whether on the court of off featured individual schools. He sported shirts, hats, jackets, and shoes and spoke about the need to support these schools and help get them funding.

The following is a list of schools Paul was able to showcase while in the Wide World of Disney, Orlando bubble and no doubt had many more he HCBUs he was hoping to promote had the OKC Thunder got deeper in the playoffs.

Chris Paul actively promotes HBCU Week

Even though the team has left the bubble Paul continues to be front and center discussing this passion topic that is so close to his heart. Although CP3 attended Wake Forest during his college days he recently enrolled in a class at Winston-Salem State University

This past Friday, Paul appeared on ESPN First Take (see below) during HBCU Week (for those who want more information you can visit HBCUWeek.org). Paul discussed his passion and noted his entire family attended HBCUs.

He also congratulated Billy Donovan on his new job with the Chicago Bulls, and confirmed he would not opt-out of his contract. The Point God is still lamenting the first round exit of the OKC Thunder and it’s clear he felt they easily could’ve gone on to the second round.

In addition, Paul spoke about how the NBA and WNBA elected to keep the focus on social justice.

Another point Paul noted was the Social Change Fund he launched with Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony is partnering with HBCU Heroes and LIFT to provide transportation to HBCU students in swing states in order to help them get to the polls to vote.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Also tying into this passion of Paul’s is he will be creating a docuseries on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This is one of many film projects the veteran point guard is involved in. The documentary is tentatively titled ‘The Day Sports Stood Still’.  As the title indicates it will focus on the impact of COVID-19 and major league sports.

Having been at the game where Rudy Gobert virtually stopped the game and was the catalyst for putting the NBA season on hiatus Paul has a unique perspective on the situation. Factor in he’s the NBPA president and his involvement throughout the suspension and bringing the season back via the Orlando bubble offers further material for the film.

Paul’s partners are Brian Grazer and Ron Howard of Imagine and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua best known for films like Training Day.
