OKC Thunder: Terrance Ferguson season and contract grades
Terrance Ferguson is in the third year of his rookie-scale contract. TI takes a look at how his season went.
The tale of the 2019-20 season was told in two parts. The first part was pre-COVID-19 when the world was normal. Then there was the bubble. This was kind of the same for OKC Thunder small forward Terrance Ferguson.
His start of the season was incredible, being switched on defensively every night. He was taking the best opponent wing and took immense pride in shutting them down every time that he hit the court.
Offensively he was fairly stunted, not cutting to the hoop, basically taking 3-point shots only. This was not a problem until it became obvious that his mind was not on basketball and the fall began.
The issue which derailed Terrance Ferguson’s season for the OKC Thunder.
We later found out that Ferguson was in a legal battle with his ex for custody of his daughter. He took time away from the team, for which he has my full respect. This allowed him to concentrate on the legal battle. He also missed time through injury.
Unfortunately, when all the dust settled from the legal and injury standpoint, his role had been replaced. Abdel Nader took over starting before rookie sensation Luguentz Dort won the role. Ferguson would then spend the rest of the season battling for his position in the rotation.
For the season Ferguson played 56 games, starting 38. He only averaged 3.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.5 steals in 22.4 minutes per game. He took 3.0 of his 3.9 shot attempts from beyond the arc, making his offense very one dimensional.
