OKC Thunder draft prospect profile: Tyrese Haliburton
Iowa State sophomore Tyrese Haliburton draws serious comparison to OKC Thunder cornerstone Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Tyrese Haliburton joins the myriad of guards in the 2020 draft with a consensus of the main big boards having him selected in the lottery and typically in the top ten. That means Haliburton falls out the range of the OKC Thunder unless they make moves to trade up to get the youngster.
The Thunder have the 25th pick in the first round of the 2020 draft and while there is a drat closest full of picks there is a great argument to leave the 2021 and 2022 draft picks sitting in that closet as the next two draft classes are full of rising stars and potential generational talents.
The biggest question entering the draft and this offseason was whether Sam Presti would be shopping the veterans and at the top of that list is point guard Chris Paul.
Tyrese Haliburton draft prospect preview:
The combination of the potential for Paul to be traded and so many guards in this class raises the question of whether the Thunder would want to select a guard.
To that end, there will be guards available throughout the first round and next year the player many teams will tank for (Cade Cunningham) could be the prospect Sam Presti has his sights set on even before one game is played in the 2020-21 season.
