In his first season, Dort averaged only 0.8 assists per game. This is certainly not one of the stronger parts of his game. However, in an effort to keep the Thunder offense moving, Dort needs to show that he can pass the ball to an open shot regularly.

With all the trade rumors going around about the OKC Thunder, there is a good chance that Dort will not have the talents of Chris Paul to rely on. Like a more consistent 3-point shot, if Dort shows the opposition that he can pass more, guarding him becomes even harder.

One thing that will help this is that Dort will be able to spend the entire training camp and non-game days working out with the team. This is something that he could not do last season due to the nature of the two-way deal.

He had to watch film instead of participating in practice so he could ready on team defense. This in itself is incredible, to have the ability to work out court positioning without physically being able to work it out with teammates says a lot about Dort.

Being able to learn the offensive systems of new OKC Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault with others being on the court will assist Dort so much. This is due to Daigneault’s familiarity with the Thunder, having coached the Blue, these systems will be somewhat similar to last season.
