Pro Comparison:

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor suggests comparisons of Hampton’s game to Will Barton, Dante Exum, and a taller Rodrigue Beaubois. ESPN’s Jordan Schultz also suggested a similarity to Donovan Mitchell’s game.

Mitchell’s athletic ability is a nod to Hampton’s pure talent and belief in what he could become. Like Exum, Hampton uses his long strides and speed to get to the basket and is crafty with the ball in hand.

Barton is an underrated player in the league. With Hampton falling in the trade rankings this year, like Barton, he is better than many propose and has a lot to offer. His mid-range scoring success is an example.

OKC Thunder fit:

More from Thunderous Intentions

The OKC Thunder go into the new season almost certainly without veterans except for Danny Green and possibly Steven Adams. Hampton like Luguentz Dort, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Darius Bazley will benefit tremendously from Green’s championship experience and willingness to help young players.

Due to the young Thunder core going through their first season with OKC together, they’ll be able to help Hampton transition better into the league.

In addition, watching Hampton’s pre-draft interview and him speaking during his time with the Breakers, he is very articulate and mature. Parts of his persona remind me of Darius Bazley and like Bazley, he spent his first year out of High School surrounded by professionals.

It may be because I got to watch him in person and support the Breakers but I do believe OKC is a great fit for Hampton. I would love for him to join the team and witness him grow with the Thunder’s future stars who I’m sure he’ll get along with really well.

As we know, there’s also a kiwi connection with Adams on the team, making it an even better place for the prospect to be.
