OKC Thunder draft prospect profile: Tyrell Terry
Pro Comparison:
Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer lists Mark Price, CJ McCollum, and Jason Terry as possible NBA comparisons.
Personally, I don’t see how the Stephen Curry juxtaposition isn’t mentioned more based on the strengths outlined above. That’s not to say the trio of Price, McCollum, and Terry didn’t have a major on winning, rather their own scoring was the key contribution they made while I believe Terry will be more than a secondary scorer eventually.
OKC Thunder fit:
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
While the intelligence factor is undeniable – Terry’s other predominant character trait is his scrappiness. The guard displays a gritty attitude while hustling for every loose ball or while defending larger opponents.
In that regard, he’s a coach’s dream because he embodies the seemingly perfect combination of brain, heart, and soul on and off the court. Moreover, he embraces being a leader, and when asked what his best asset is he avoids the obvious (shooting), instead choosing “selflessness” — that tells you everything you need to know about Terry.
With the 25th pick in the first round, it’s highly unlikely the OKC Thunder will get an opportunity to select Tyrell Terry. However, there is an outside shot the situation could change based on Sam Presti making trades this week that could bolster his picks on Wednesday.
Depending on whether trades occur and which pick(s) Presti picks up there are a few prospects Presti should consider including guards Terry, Killian Hayes, and Tyrese Haliburton as well as another T.I. fav Deni Avdija.
