Devon Dotson, Nico Mannion, and Theo Maledon should all be on the board when the OKC Thunder pick at 25, but they should avoid.

The OKC Thunder will make their first selection in the NBA Draft with the 25th pick. Sam Presti will have several talents to choose from including an abundance of guards as the 2020 class has a large disparity of guards compared to wings and bigs. As such, it’s likely Devon DotsonTheo Maledon, and Nico Mannion will all still be on the board.

While each of these guards possesses specific assets they aren’t the prospects we’d recommend Sam Presti add to the OKC Thunder roster.

Let’s look at each of this trio with a view to their specific profiles.

Current Ranking:

Projected by some to be a late first-round pick while most earmark Dotson for the second round.

Strengths:

  • Strength scoring in the paint
  • First step is blistering
  • Solid ballhandler
  • Above-average footwork (clear on both sides of court)
  • No fear

Weaknesses:

  • Perimeter shot efficiency regressed in his sophomore season.
  • If he can’t correct that issue it makes all the things he does so well driving/in the paint moot
  • As wonderful as his speed is – he needs to figure out when to utilize this skill as sometimes he presses resulting in turnovers or poor shot decisions.
  • You can’t each size

Pro Comparison:

Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer lists Jeremy Lin, Eric Bledsoe as possible NBA comparisons.
