A look at why the OKC Thunder signed Josh Hall to a two-way deal.
The OKC Thunder have had a huge offseason. They traded away almost their entire roster, turning it over to start the rebuild. They signed a number of players to exhibit-10 deals or non-guaranteed deals. They signed Josh Hall to a two-way deal, let’s look at why.
As most fans are aware, NBA teams can only have 20 players on their training camp roster. This goes down to 17 for the start of the regular season. This is 15 players on full contracts and two players on two-way deals.
Because Hall has been signed to a two-way deal, he is almost guaranteed to make it through to the 17 man roster. The Thunder have done this as they believe in the potential of Hall and are going to use the two-way deal to assess Hall in a similar way they assessed Luguentz Dort.
Why is Josh Hall such a desired prospect for the OKC Thunder

Hall is such a tremendous prospect. He stands 6’9″ and fell out of draft contention because he skipped college. He chose to play for Prep Academy and despite this was the 23rd ranked prospect in the country.
Naturally, it was a surprise that he went undrafted but the Thunder sees a huge upside in Hall. He is a tremendous shooter off one foot or from deep. He does struggle to finish at the rim due to a lack of explosiveness and having a tendency to rush his shot in the lane under pressure, but all of this can be worked on.
He is not a strong defender, nor is he a good rebounder but get him working with NBA Coaches and trainers and all of this will develop. He has a really high ceiling if he can lock it all in but his floor is also very low. This is why the Thunder have not risked a full deal but signed him to a two-way.
Presti has shown that he is willing to look at every way that he can to develop and evaluate talent during this rebuild. He was not able to draft Hall but got his man once the draft was over. Hall has the potential to be converted to a full contract before the end of the season if he develops as hoped.
