As shown by Dort last season the OKC Thunder are more than willing to reward excellence with a guaranteed NBA contract. While this is the case, it would be unfair to place expectations on him to become the next Lu Dort; the Canadian is one of a kind.
However, Hall is in a unique position this season. In the history of the Thunder, this is the first time they are shifting to rebuild mode and evaluating a litany of players who could breakthrough.
He is on a two-way deal on a team shifting to evaluating talent. As stated earlier there is no pressure on him so he can blossom into a professional in the G-League as well as the main rotation.
He and Moses Brown, the other two-way player, are going to get their full allotment of time with the main squad this season. This is going to allow the coaching staff to evaluate his potential fit and how high his upside is.
For Hall to earn the full deal he is going to have to outperform another player currently on a full contract. There are so many players on rookie deals or minimum contracts if Hall can show that he is going to be a better fit, this is when he will find it easiest to break through to the varsity roster.
The ball, as they say, is now in Hall’s court.
