Season goal for Frank Jackson No. 3) Have his contract guaranteed.

Every player in the NBA is playing for their next contract. Some players have the talent to pick their team and name their price but most are just looking for the best chance for them to win and get a good deal. Frank Jackson falls into the latter category.

More from Thunderous Intentions

As stated earlier, Jackson has come to the OKC Thunder on a partially guaranteed deal this season. This means that he is backing himself to make the roster. Based on his first two preseason games, he looks to be a lock to do this for the season, and get some good playing time.

To get the assurance that you know where your next paycheck is coming from will also help him relax and play his best basketball. There is enough pressure in the NBA without placing any more on the shoulders of a 22-year-old.

However, he needs to play well enough that the Thunder can trade George Hill without worrying about the on-court performance. The Thunder still need to be competitive, otherwise, player development may be set back due to loss of confidence with the team losing big every night.

Jackson’s game then needs to shine this season so that his 2021-22 deal is guaranteed. As he is only earning just under $1.7 million this season and $1.8 million next season, this should be very possible for the third-year pro.
