After spending last year as the understudy for the OKC Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is now looking at a bigger role. Here are three goals for 2020-21.

The OKC Thunder have Paul George to thank for the start of the rebuild. Not only did they get a plethora of draft picks but they got a future franchise piece in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who is now entering his third season in the NBA.

His first season was with the LA Clippers where he showed tremendous promise. He averaged 10.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks in 26.5 minutes per game. He was named to the All-Rookie team and when he came to OKC it was easy to see why.

Last season SGA was dynamic in the backcourt starting next to Chris Paul. Then at the end of games, he was part of one of the most clutch lineups in the NBA alongside Paul and Dennis Schroder. He averaged 19.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 34.7 minutes per game.

Can Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lead the OKC Thunder through this rebuild?

As SGA is touted as the future of the OKC Thunder then they are certainly hoping that the answer to this question is yes. He has shown tremendous ability on the court but he has also shown an incredible willingness to listen and learn from mentors such as Paul.

While there have been some doubts about his desire to stick around after his current contract, the way the Thunder work this rebuild will be crucial to keeping him. He is a fierce competitor and should Sam Presti put the right pieces around him over the next two years, SGA will want to be part of the franchise for the long term.

With all that in mind, let’s take a look at the three goals for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the 2020-21 season
