The other goal of a two-way player is to earn a full deal with the varsity squad. Not only do you earn more money, but it is also good to have relative security of where your money is coming from for the next two or three seasons.
The Thunder have shown that they are willing to reward any worthy player they have on a two-way deal. Again Dort is the example where he earned himself a three-year deal, the final two being non-guaranteed. However, he went from a below minimum NBA salary to a three year, $5 million deal.
Brown will need either Al Horford or Mike Muscala to be traded in order to earn a deal. This is unless he can develop his body and game to become a solid player down low. To put it simply the Thunder would not be competitive with Aleksej Pokusevski and Brown on the floor.
One thing is for sure, Brown is going to have a much better run at making an NBA roster this season compared to last season. The Thunder are looking to get pieces for the future and Brown has the height and defensive acumen to be an interesting prospect.
