OKC Thunder key No. 2) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander must continue facilitating

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a tantalizing talent with untapped potential. That said, in year three many are still trying to figure out what position best suits his style of play.

During his breakout campaign last season, he served as more of an off-ball two, ceding primary ball-handler duties to Chris Paul. Now, with CP3 gone, head coach Mark Daigneault has done more variations of him serving as a number one handler though, with George Hill in tow, he has also seen ample time roaming freely as well.

In both of OKC’s wins this year, SGA has found himself serving as the predominant floor general on the team, setting up his teammates graciously with an average of eight assists per game.

As the old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

By this, we mean the team should keep Gilgeous-Alexander in the role of lead guard and set-up artist until it proves to be a faulty scheme.

Like what you’re taught in rec-league, ball movement is key for success in basketball and, if he can help get his teammates more involved, wins will be much easier to come by for the Thunder.
