The OKC Thunder affiliate, the OKC Blue, took part in the G-League draft as their bubble season draws nearer. Here we introduce you to the players drafted.

With the OKC Thunder being in the process of a rebuild their G-League affiliate the OKC Blue become an even more vital cog in the talent development machine. The first stage of getting the new season underway was completing the G-League draft.

The No. 1 overall pick of this G-League draft was none other than Admiral Schofield who was with the OKC Thunder through the preseason. However, the Blue did not make a selection until the seventh pick in the draft.

With this pick, they took Zavier Simpson, the four-year point guard out of Michigan. The former Wolverine averaged 7.3 points, 4.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. He took a leap in his senior year averaging 12.9 points, 7.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.

He was suspended for a game after breaking team curfew early in 2020 when he crashed a car into a pole. He then lied to the police about this, stating later that he did not want to be part of a police report.

OKC Thunder fans may be familiar with their second pick.

The OKC Blue then had the 13th pick in the draft where they selected Vincent Edwards. The 6’3″ guard was actually a member of the Blue last season before he was traded to the Canton Charge in exchange for Tyler Cook.

During his time with the Blue, Edwards averaged 11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.7 steals per game. He was pressed into starting duties due to the injury issues for the Blue last season and became a really good 3-point shooter. He shot the ball at 47.5 percent from the floor, 40.9 percent from deep, and 70.8  percent from the line.

The Blue then had to wait until the end of the second round where they selected Rob Edwards with the 37th pick of the draft. Edwards started his college career at Cleveland State before transferring to Arizona State after two years.

In his four-year college career, he averaged 12.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. It will be interesting to see how these three players work in with the current roster of the OKC Blue.

With the season starting in early February we won’t have to wait long to find out.
