OKC Thunder takeaway No. 2)  The apprentice outshone the master

Last season was one of the most watchable in OKC Thunder franchise history.

This was a fun team with no expectations who made the playoffs. This was thanks largely to point guard Chris Paul who was instrumental in so many clutch situations.

The amazing sub-story of the season was the bond that developed between Paul and SGA. The two of them did so much together, on and off the court. Paul was obviously the master and SGA was the apprentice.

The fact that SGA led the Thunder in scoring last season was a testament to the fact that Paul wanted him to grow. This season, the apprentice has become one of the hardest players in the NBA to stop.

Against the Phoenix Suns, SGA had 21 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Paul had 32 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a steal. The fact the Thunder won was due to the play of SGA, bringing his young teammates along with him.

That is not discounting the game of Horford, who kept the team in it early but SGA was in everything and just outshone one of the greatest point guards in the game.
