OKC Thunder: 2 players who could unexpectedly be on trade block
By Mark Nilon
OKC Thunder player No. 2) Mike Muscala
To make things abundantly clear, the players being placed on this list is in no way a sign that we wish for them to be dealt. Mike Muscala, in particular, is a player I personally believe to be one of the most undervalued players on the roster for the OKC Thunder.
That said, the way that he operates on the floor and the offensive skillset he has is something that many contending teams would love to have within their arsenal. Add in the fact that he’s 6-11 and shoots 37 percent from deep for his career and you have a guy that could bring back a pretty penny from some depth-desperate franchises.
Now in his eighth season in the association, the 29-year-old is finding himself having one of the best campaigns of his career year, posting averages of 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep.
Like our argument was for Williams, there are many title-hopeful squads that could use for someone like Muscala in their lineup and, just recently, Bleacher Report writer Greg Swartz proposed the idea of the Los Angeles Lakers as being a team that could look into acquiring the veteran big man, citing their need for depth and lacking cap space as the biggest reasons for the idea.
"Mike Muscala was a trade-deadline acquisition in 2019, although the price L.A. paid at the time (Ivica Zubac and Michael Beasley) was far too high. The 29-year-old big man is averaging a career-high 9.3 points per game and is shooting 36.7 percent from three off the Oklahoma City Thunder bench."
Outside of, say, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort there aren’t any players on the OKC roster that should be deemed as “untouchable.”
With this in mind, while we at TI respect Muscala’s game, and don’t necessarily want him to be dealt, out of all the players that could realistically be dealt aside from George Hill, Al Horford, and Trevor Ariza, Mike Muscala would likely be the most sought after talent.
