OKC Thunder takeaway No. 2) Thunder bench unit remains consistent despite a slow start from starting unit

This game is somewhat easy to break down when looking at the stat sheet because it all boils down to one variable, the OKC second unit’s effort.

Anytime a team can outscore the opposition 42-9 in any category, this will translate to wins in the NBA.

Hamidou Diallo continues to be the most consistent Thunder player on the season as he leads the bench unit with 15 points while shooting a perfect 5 of 5 from the field.

Although Hami’s struggles were glaring at the free-throw line, the bouncy OKC guard still finds his niche in each roll impressed upon him.

Watch Hami use this crossover to get to the rim with ease:

Hami’s performance is why the Thunder bench led the Cavs 29-4 at the half. The bench play is also a significant indication of why this group forced 10 turnovers in that same amount of time.

Another reason why this number was so lopsided is due to the efficiency of NBA veteran Mike Muscala. ‘Moose’ played just 17 minutes during the contest but shot 5 of 11 from the field, shooting 33 percent from 3-point land. Muscala was also extremely active on the boards, collecting five rebounds in a short time period.

The Thunder second unit, also known as the ‘Breakfast Club,’ is dishing out more servings than its opponents can handle as the Cavs second unit could not hold a candle to OKC. Look for the bench to expand on this game moving forward.
