OKC Thunder: Pros and cons trading for hometown hero Blake Griffin
By Brandon Dale
Conclusion
As a Blake Griffin fan, of course I would love for this man to return home to Oklahoma!
It would be a great story, and this would also energize him for the latter stages of his career. His friends and family would be able to see him play weekly, and his journey would come full-circle.
As a Thunder fan and unbiased member of the media, it makes no sense from either side to make this deal unless there is a draft pick brought back from Detroit’s end.
Griffin will make about $50 million over the next two years. However, Troy Weaver, the general manager for the Pistons and former assistant general manager for the OKC Thunder, could call up his pal Sam Presti to facilitate a deal.
The fact remains is that Griffin holds no immediate value in the trade market, nor does he bring any tangible value to OKC. Griffin’s value will undoubtedly be in the buyout market for any contender looking to have an extra piece deep in the playoffs.
BG’s game does not mirror what it once was. He is not the skywalker he was in Los Angeles, nor is he that animated dunker that was continually running fast breaks at the University of Oklahoma.
Griffin will be moved from Detroit in the upcoming months, if not sooner, but he will not be wearing the OKC Thunder colors. It makes zero sense for either party to pull the trigger on this trade.
