OKC Thunder: B/R believes SGA will be an All-Star… in 5 years
By Mark Nilon
2020-21 has been a career-best season for OKC Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Through 30 games played the 22-year-old is posting impressive averages of 23.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game on 51 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent shooting from deep.
With his production, SGA made his way to within the top 10 of fan votes during the first wave for All-Star ballots but, unfortunately, didn’t manage to make the cut for the final rosters.
While we here at TI believe the young talent was snubbed from receiving his first All-Star nod this year — which became even more evident with the recent addition of Mike Conley in place of the injured Devin Booker –, the Thunder fan base is quite sure that Gilgeous-Alexander will eventually make it to the illustrious exhibition.
Bleacher Report recently joined in on this belief and, in turn, went about and predicted that he will be an All-Star… in 5 years’ time.
Bleacher Report believes OKC Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be an All-Star
"Gilgeous-Alexander has something for everyone. His smooth, slippery play style is easy on the eyes. His traditional numbers speak for themselves. His advanced analytics are eye-openers.In other words, his stardom can appeal to casuals, highlight-hungry fans, stat-obsessed number-crunchers and everyone in between. He’s also equally appealing to NBA franchises since he works on or off the ball, plays and defends multiple positions and works as anything from a win-now asset to a long-term centerpiece."
Of course, the piece is just discussing the players they believe will be on an NBA All-Star roster in the year 2026. With this, they are not stating that they don’t believe the OKC Thunder cornerstone won’t make it before this specific season.
However, it just further strengthens the idea amongst the team’s fanbase that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a star in the making.
Sooner or later, we’ll be seeing SGA in the ASG.
