OKC Thunder: player grades from impressive win over MIN
By Brandon Dale
OKC Thunder starting lineup grades:
Theo Maledon continues to fill up the stat sheet for the OKC Thunder, as the rookie logged nine points on three of 12 shooting. Theo recorded a block and four rebounds for OKC in 33 minutes of action.
I am grading this as a C because Maledon still looks uncomfortable with the starting unit. I am unsure if it is confidence, but he does not seem to gel with this group.
The rookie is a skilled player, but he may need more time to find his fit with the starting unit.
SGA continues to impress since being snubbed as an All-Star. He managed to log another 30 point performance and went off in the third period, scoring 13 of his 31 points during that timeframe.
Gilgeous-Alexander continues to be the heart and soul of this squad. Minnesota had no answer for the Kentucky product as he was able to show a tremendous all-around performance, providing two blocks to go along with a steal and four assists.
The one thing that does not show up in the box score is his enthusiasm, as he was seen multiple times on the sidelines dancing or cheering his teammates on while OKC went on various runs during this contest.
Shai continues to be the perfect franchise player for this team as his attitude and energy trickle down to the very last player on this OKC Thunder bench.
Aleksej Pokusevski looked aggressive in the contest. He recorded seven rebounds in the first quarter and showed no hesitation as the rookie seems to find his stride with this starting unit.
Poku scored 13 points to match his 10 rebounds as the seven-footer hit three 3-pointers during the contest.
The wunderkind forward has only improved since being recalled from the G-League. His time spent there during recent months proved to be beneficial. His confidence has been tremendous, and he will only continue to grow as he spends more time in the league.
Isaiah Roby had an average game, going four of seven from the field and scoring nine points in 30 minutes of action.
Roby has been shuffled around the starting lineup a few times but continues to make do with his situation. Although Monday night was not his most remarkable performance, he is still a great size at the power forward position and has been less shy beyond the 3-point line as he was able to hit a corner 3-pointer against the T-Wolves.
Look for Roby to continue to find his comfort zone as he gets used to playing the stretch-four position for this squad.
Moses Brown continues to shine as the seven-foot center logged a career-high for rebounds during his latest outing. Brown recorded 17 boards to outlast his previous career-high of 16
At 21-years old, Brown still has a ways to go, and his offensive skillset remains limited. But you cannot coach effort. Brown’s ability to crash the boards is precisely what this OKC Thunder unit needs due to the absence of size at the end of the bench.
Brown will only continue this trend as he is very much still a raw project. Look for Moses to have a few rebound titles in his near future.
