Minnesota Timberwolves: Reluctant Buyers

Week 13: 1-2

Offense: (106.8) 26th
Defense: (113.9) 26th
Net: (Minus -7.1) 29th

Possessing a talent considered to be generational talent like Karl-Anthony Towns is a bonus but Gersson Rosas finds himself in a catch-22. If the Wolves continue in their current path they’ll likely net one of the top three picks in this deep draft class.  Yet if the bingo balls fall outside the top -three the pick will be conveyed to the Warriors.

The more pressing issue is keeping KAT content a move Rosas thought he was accomplishing by bringing in D’Angelo Russell. But injury has kept him off the court the last 20 games and when he was healthy Towns was out injured and then dealing with COVID-19.

Having just won their 10th game, the Wolves find themselves between a rock and hard place because the writing is on the wall for their generational talent to request a trade if the team doesn’t start winning and making postseason appearances.

As such, the Wolves are likely to be buyers. John Collins, Aaron Gordon, and Norman Powell are all players Rosas (and KAT) are said to be high on adding. Gordon is likely headed to Denver so look for the Collins trade to Wolves to potentially gain traction.  The other obvious tangent would be the Kings Harrison Barnes if Gordon is off the list.
