OKC Thunder fans name player comparisons for Moses Brown
By Mark Nilon
We all know the old saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Based on how the past couple of seasons have gone, the OKC Thunder may wish to have these words carved into the hardwood at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
From the ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ Chris Paul era of 2019-20 to the bevy of diamonds in the rough found this year, Sam Presti and co. have done a tremendous job of landing unwanted commodities and flipping them into quality talents.
This season already we here at TI can list a handful of instances where an “afterthought” player has risen to prominence. However, perhaps none of said players’ rise has been as impressive as that of sophomore center, Moses Brown.
Signed as a free agent in the offseason to a two-way contract, at the time, the 21-year-old was viewed as no more than a youthful big with impressive size (7-2) and very raw talent.
Spending the majority of the early portion of 2020-21 in the G-League, Brown found himself dominating whilst suiting up for the OKC Blue, posting stellar per-game averages of 18.5 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game on 56 percent shooting from the floor.
His play was so impressive that it earned him an All-NBA G League First Team selection as well as substantial use of his permitted 45 days allowed with the varsity team.
With this opportunity, Brown did not disappoint.
Since being recalled in early March, the center has found himself posting stupendous averages of 12.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game on 58 percent shooting from the floor.
Already viewed by some as a potential long-term fixture within the rotation for the OKC Thunder, following a late March outing against the Boston Celtics, where the big man posted 21 points and 23 rebounds on 80 percent shooting from the floor, the franchise announced that they had inked Brown to a standard multi-year NBA contract.
OKC Thunder fans make high-profile player comparisons for Moses Brown
Now, through 18 total games played with the Thunder, along with seven starts, the fanbase has been outwardly enamored with how well the second-year player has performed and, in turn, has gone about pinpointing who the center most resembles in regard to past and/ or present players.
Here are some of the best player comparisons they came up with:
Now, while some of these comparisons may be a bit far fetched or, a the very least, too early to tell, simply the fact that his name is found in the same breathe as guys like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dennis Rodman, and Rudy Gobert is a joy to see for OKC Thunder fans and, frankly, for Brown himself.
Not bad for a second-year undrafted free agent.
