OKC Thunder: 3 things we must see during final stretch of season
By Mark Nilon
Thing to see No. 2) Extended play from impending free agents/ non-guarantees
A major part of a franchise rebuild focuses on the offseason, where the front office looks to add talents to either serve as a building block or as a complementary piece within the rotation.
With the first part seemingly already out of the way for the OKC Thunder, as they have the 22-year-old SGA in tow, their attention will now primarily be focused on signing secondary and tertiary options.
Of course, this can, and likely will be accomplished via the draft over the next several years, but this is not to say the team doesn’t already have some talents in place that could be long-term participants within the rotation as well.
Coming into the offseason, five players are looking at unknown futures with the team, as three are impending free agents while two others have non-guaranteed contracts for 2021-22.
This list includes the likes of Mike Muscala (unrestricted free agent), Tony Bradley & Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (restricted free agent), Kenrich Williams (team-option), and Isaiah Roby (non-guaranteed).
All of these aforementioned players possess skill sets that could be of sound service moving forward but, as the business goes, the Thunder will certainly not be able to retain all of them.
During these final 14 games, we must see each of these aforementioned players get more time on the hardwood for a chance to show the front office reasons for why some of them may be worth holding on to past this season.
