OKC Thunder seen taking Evan Mobley with No. 2 overall pick in B/R’s latest NBA Mock Draft

Seemingly with every day that passes, it appears that the OKC Thunder find themselves linked to a different prospect from this year’s incoming rookie class.

Just last week, in two separate NBA Mock Drafts, we saw the franchise taking two different players, the first being Duke’s Jalen Johnson and the second being G League standout, Jonathan Kuminga, both of whom were selected seventh and fifth overall, respectively.

Most recently, with their continued losing ways and exterior factors working in their favor, we saw Oklahoma City shoot on up to the No. 2 slot in Bleacher Report’s most recent mock, where they would go on to take USC standout big man, Evan Mobley.

Citing his impressive array of skills, ranging from ball-handling to dominant defensive chops, writer Jonathan Wasserman believes the one and done center would mesh quite nicely with the trajectory that this rebuilding Thunder team is currently on:

"Between Mobley and the emergence of Luguentz Dort, the Thunder could really start to strengthen their defensive foundation and identity. USC’s big man popped this year for his quickness and length in rim protection, switching and guarding in space. And there is still exciting offensive upside to unlock from his ball-handling, face-up moves, shooting touch and passing skills. It might take longer to see results from Mobley compared to Jalen Suggs or Jalen Green. But the Thunder shouldn’t be in any rush. Long term, an Aleksej Pokusevski-Mobley pairing would be fun to develop."

The OKC Thunder are in an enviable situation, as they find themselves with many holes within the rotation and, in turn, can opt to go in a bevy of different directions in an effort to fill said gaps.

With their desire to play positionless basketball, so long as Cade Cunningham is off the board, perhaps bringing on the likes of Mobley is their best option to achieve such a goal.

On the year, the 19-year-old posted per-game averages of 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.9 blocks on 58 percent shooting from the floor.
