OKC Thunder: 2 draft prospects worth trading up for
By Mark Nilon
OKC Thunder target No. 2) Cade Cunningham, G, Oklahoma State
Unlike the inclusion of Jalen Green on this list, finding Cade Cunningham mentioned should not come as a shock to anyone.
Since before the season even began, calls of “Fade for Cade” were seen flooding timelines within the Twitterverse amongst OKC Thunder fans, and now, as we find ourselves a mere three months away from the big night, nothing seems to have changed.
The consensus No. 1 overall pick in the majority of published mock drafts, the Oklahoma State standout would seemingly be a blessing of a talent to have for any team, let alone Oklahoma City.
Measuring in at 6-8, 220 pounds with a 7-foot wingspan, the 19-year-old looks to have the stature of an ideal modern-day NBA forward, while his ball-handling skills and elite court vision would suggest he could legitimately serve as a team’s point guard.
During his one-and-done season with the Cowboys, Cunningham posted stellar all-around averages of 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.6 steals, and just shy of a block per game on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 40 percent shooting from deep.
With player comparisons ranging from Ben Simmons with a jumper to Luka Doncic, Oklahoma City landing the Oklahoma State standout would be an unreal scenario for this already impressive young Thunder squad.
His enviable combination of size, three-level scoring potential, and high basketball IQ make him the ideal No. 1 overall pick in this coming draft, and, with this, Presti should strongly consider packaging a few picks together to move up the board in an effort to snag him should they fall out from the first selection.
