Tanking OKC Thunder nab coveted bottom 3 with 3 games to go
A wild finish on tap for OKC Thunder:
It’s going to make for a wild finish this week. Making the situation even more dramatic is the potential for everyone but the Rockets to finish with identical records. Should that happen a series of coin flips would determine draft lottery odds.
More from Thunderous Intentions
- Stealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC Thunder
- Should the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?
- 3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absence
- Aleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injury
- Damian Lillard does not fit with the OKC Thunder
Imagine having spent the better portion of the season tanking and a coin could land positively for a 14 percent shot at Cade Cunningham or land negatively dropping the odds to nine percent (six percent less than the best seeding).
The other team to keep an eye on this week is the Heat. Entering the final week of play Miami is seeded sixth in the East with a two-game edge on the Celtics who’ll they’ll play on Tuesday.
That game will determine who owns the tiebreaker (as long as the Heat don’t win the Southeast Division). Boston has an easier week as their other three games feature the Cavaliers, Wolves, and Knicks. Conversely, Miami’s other games are versus the 76ers, Bucks, and Pistons.
Given the Rockets’ likelihood of retaining their pick, Thunder fans should be hoping the Heat fall down to seventh and hence lower overall in their draft pick which will likely be the second pick OKC makes.
Of course, nothing will be cemented until all the games have been played. So send those positive vibes into the universe for wins by each of the Pistons, Wolves, Magic, and Cavaliers.
