Way OKC Thunder fans could watch 2021 postseason No. 3) Root for Russell Westbrook
The Brodie will always have a soft spot in the hearts of OKC Thunder fans, so now, with their favorite franchise missing out on any semblence of postseason action, perhaps cheering on their favorite former franchise player could be a nice alternitive option to consider.
Russell Westbrook‘s genius on the hardwood has arguably gone underappreciated over the last several seasons, for the man has achieved the impossible by averaging a triple-double for the fourth time in his career and, still, finds himself labeled as a “stat padder” and was left off the 2021 NBA All-Star team.
Through 65 games played, the former MVP posted per-game averages of 22.2 points, 11.7 assists, 11.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals however, his second-half excellence alongside fellow backcourt star, Bradley Beal, is what people are seriously sleeping on.
By the All-Star break, the Washington Wizards found themselves six games under .500 with a record of 14-20, and close to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
To snap them back into action, Westbrook went about and did what he does best — he balled out.
During his second-half stretch, the future Hall of Famer posted stellar averages of 23.6 points, 13.1 assists, 12.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game and, in turn, helped guide the Wizards to a 20-18 record, including a 15-5 finish through their final 20 games that saw an eight game winning streak, all of which led them to their play-in eligibility.
Now, rolling into Tuesday’s first game, OKC Thunder fans should strongly consider adopting Washington as their go-to team moving forward through the postseason (assuming they’ll wind up advancing).
