OKC Thunder Draft: 2 NBA star comparisons for Evan Mobley
By Mark Nilon
NBA player comparison No. 2) Anthony Davis
Comparing an incoming NBA Draft prospect to a future Hall of Fame talent is always going to be met with some pushback but in the case of Evan Mobley being attached to the likes of Los Angeles Lakers superstar, Anthony Davis, it’s simply hard for spectators to not see.
Coming into the draft, Mobley finds himself measuring in at 7-feet, 215-pounds with a 7-4 wingspan which, roughly, were AD’s measurements coming into the league as well.
Aside from build, however, both possess a very similar game when it comes to playing on both ends of the court.
As we said in the previous slide, the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year showcased an impressive array of offensive skills — low post, mid-range, and even long-ball potential — that, while we compared them to Aldridge, were also possessed by Davis during his collegiate days and have been exponentially improved upon at the next level.
However, what makes the two so similar is their natural expertise on the less glamorous side of the ball. On top of winning Player of the Year, Mobley also took home Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honors as well as Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Along with his impressive abilities to defend the rim (led the conference in blocks with 2.9 per game) Mobley proved to have the agility, quickness, and mobility to guard anywhere from inside the paint to out along the perimeter, which is something Anthony Davis has proven to do flawlessly throughout his tenure in the league.
Though it’s hard to say if Evan Mobley will ever be able to reach the heights that Davis has been able to achieve, when looking at each of their respective games coupled with their similar frames, it’s hard not to see the similarities between the two ballers, which is why OKC Thunder fans would love to bring on the talented big with their first-round pick should they miss out on Cade Cunningham.
