Williams is in the first year of his $6.0 million deal that was signed as part of the Adams deal. He is on $2.0 million for the next three seasons. This is an incredible contract for the Thunder given the level of production of Williams this season.
He is going to be a key contributor over the next couple of seasons and he also leaves a huge amount of room for the Thunder to offer solid free agents some decent contracts. This is going to be a key for the Thunder to speed along their rebuild, they need more money to entice players than in the bigger markets.
Season grade: B+
As mentioned, Willaims gave the Thunder everything he had every time that he hit the court. His season averages would have been higher if he had been given the opportunity earlier in the season. The Thunder had to give rookie Pokusevski the opportunity to learn early on.
The fact that Williams kept his minutes when all the players returned from the G-League bubble just highlights the effort he put in. He has shown this season that you do not have to have the most talent to play at the top level, the right attitude is key to making it in the big time.
