It’s certainly arguable that the OKC Thunder have the brightest future when compared to the other tanking teams found within the NBA’s landscape.

Traditionally, when it comes to teams found in this phase, the objective is to try and work their way towards the bottom of the league’s standings to secure a top-tier draft pick and, in turn, bring on a potential franchise player to build around for the future.

In the case of Oklahoma City, the hard work in this department is seemingly over, as they already have a building block in tow in third-year combo guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Because of this luxury, the front office can now simply continue to stockpile young pieces via the draft and collect experimental projects on the open market to try and bolster the roster around their cornerstone.

This offseason, aside from possessing two first-round selections, the team could wind up being in possession of upwards of $55 million in cap space, thus giving them the opportunity to add on players by means of free agency.

Now, to say the OKC thunder are viewed as a prime destination for available players would be an absolute farce, for even during their title-contending days with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook they never were viewed as an optimal landing spot for top free agents.

However, though they may not be legitimate threats to sign the Kawhi Leonard’s and DeMar DeRozan’s of the open market, there will still be some intriguing options for the team to consider pursuing once free agency kicks off on August 2nd.

As we’ve seen all throughout this season, Sam Presti and co. have been big on taking chances on unproven players and those perceived to have low value, with examples including Isaiah Roby, Moses Brown, and Ty Jerome.

This offseason, there are several available players that could be viewed as passion projects or talents that could stand to benefit from a second chance with a different team.

While we’re not suggesting they should be high-priority targets for Oklahoma City this summer, we at TI believe there are 2 second chance players the Thunder may want to consider pursuing:
