OKC Thunder: 2 free agents who won’t be brought back this offseason
By Mark Nilon
OKC Thunder free agent No. 2) Mike Muscala
For those of you who have been following us all season long — we love you guys! — you likely know how we feel about Mike Muscala.
Prior to the start of the season, we labeled the man as arguably the most underrated player found on the roster for the OKC Thunder and, through 35 games played in 2020-21, managed to put up perhaps his best season to date in his NBA career.
In just 18.4 minutes a night, the 29-year-old posted per-game averages of 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds on 45 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep.
In truth, we love Muscala and what he can provide for an NBA team.
That said, where he is in his career coupled with what Oklahoma City is trying to do as a tanking collective, it may be a wise decision, not necessarily for Presti to not re-sign him this coming offseason, but for the eighth-year veteran to simply look for a team where his skill set can be utilized in winning efforts.
A sniper on standby, the 6-11 forward is a tall floor spacing four who boasts a career 3-point percentage of about 37.
With the way the game is played now, contending teams in need of long-range shooting in the frontcourt will almost certainly be looking into Muscala this summer and, despite how much we personally like the guy, it may be in his best interest to look for greener pastures.
