OKC Thunder trade target No. 3) Donovan Mitchell

Today’s game is centered around the strength of one’s guard position and, while the OKC Thunder already have a budding star in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander currently in tow, as we saw during his first season in the Sooner State he’s more than capable of shinning bright whilst sharing the load in the backcourt.

Because of this, we believe that the front office should keep an eye out for talented guards both in the upcoming draft as well as around the league’s landscape to potentially nab one to pair alongside SGA moving forward and, should he become available, Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell could prove to be an unbelievable grab for Oklahoma City.

Yes, this may seem like a big “if” but, keep in mind, this is the same player that reportedly had serious issues with the Jazz dating back to last season with problems related to their own dealings with COVID-19 and, just last week, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the star’s relationship with the team was “damaged” even further due to their recent handling of his ankle injury.

Now, while we’re not necessarily anticipating a breakup is imminent, should he become available, the Thunder should absolutely consider pursuing him.

The man is still just 24-years-old, was selected to his second All-Star appearance, set new career highs this season with 26.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game all while shooting nearly 39 percent from deep, and led the charge for his team finishing with the best record in the league at 52-20.

While some may believe that trading draft capital may be best used on filling other positions within the rotation, with where the Thunder currently find themselves all areas on the roster could use for some fine-tuning, and a guy like Mitchell on the block (again, this is completely speculative at the moment) may be too good of a target to pass on pursuing.
